Q: What must NOT be included in packed lunches?
A: No nuts, fizzy drinks, glass
Q: What support will you offer my child if they are upset?
A: At The Square School we love to give cuddles to comfort a child. If the child is settling in they are able to bring their comforter into school until they are comfortable to leave it in our special box outside. If a child is persistently upset we will give the parents a call.
Q: What happens if my child gets sick at school?
A: We will call the parenst/carer immediately and take the necessary care of your child until you/the carer arrives. All staff are First Aid trained. Please see Policies and Procedures on the 'About Our School' page, for more details.
Q: What if my child does not want to do an activity?
A: We encourage children to try new things, however if they explicitly express that they do not want to participate in an activity we ask them what they would like to do instead. If a child does the same activities every session, we will look at their interests and try to encourage them to do a different activity through their interests.
Q: How do you deal with children who behave unfavourably?
A: We encourage children to think about their actions through talking about the unfavourable behaviour. We watch the children closely and try to intervene before they act out. We do not shout at children, nor do we use a 'naughty step'. We will take the child who has behaved unfavourably and do a quiet activity with them. Most importantly, we focus on positive behaviour and praise the children for the good things that they say and do. The children thrive on positive reinforcement and this and it builds a culture of repetitive positive behaviour.
